sustainable population or population limit.

La tabella che segue riporta i dati di popolazione, reddito nazionale lordo procapite (Gross National Income misurato according to the method the World Bank) biocapacity consumption (according to Global Footprint Network ) and the population limit determined by each level of consumption given the total biological capacity of the planet.

The table is reproduced, with amendments, by the publication of the World Watch Institute : State of the world 2010 just come out, which is subtitled:
Transforming cultures, from consumerism to sustainability.

Apart from the figures, which according to my calculations are a bit 'different, it comes in the original population and sustainable population limit. But if you divide the total biocapacity the world (13.4 billion global hectares) per capita consumption of biological capacity, do not get the sustainable population, but the human population would consume the entire Earth's biological capacity which is obviously not sustainable. Not wanting to speculate on the amount of biological capacity that you want to be left to other bodies should indicate the population is calculated as a population limit.

Some definitions to understand the table.
GNI: Gross National Income is defined in the WB links above.

biocapacity or biological capacity: the capacity of ecosystems to produce biological materials utili e di assorbire i materiali di scarto generati dagli esseri umani, utilizzando i sistemi di gestione e le tecnologie di estrazione attuali .  Sono definiti "materiali biologici utili " quelli utilizzati dall'economia umana, e quindi quello che viene considerato "utile" può variare di anno in anno (ad esempio l'impiego della paglia di mais (granturco) per la produzione di etanolo cellulosico farebbe diventare la paglia di mais un materiale utile , Going to increase the biological capacity of the land planted with corn). Biocapacity of an area is calculated by multiplying the actual area by a factor of physical performance and the appropriate equivalence factor. Biocapacity is expressed in units of global hectares.
